What do Alanis Morissette and Ryan Gosling have in common? Aside from both being Canadian, they love to ride on two wheels! Not together, but they do enjoy motorcycling. It’s no surprise celebrities love being on their motorcycle. The freedom, empowerment and quiet peace motorcycling gives them. After all, famous people are just like us. Well, maybe not exactly. Alanis Morissette
The Canadian singer-songwriter from Ottawa started motorcycling at the age of 30. She learned to ride so she could join a friend on a motorcycle trip to Big Sur in California. Why does she loves motorcycling? In 2008, she told the Ottawa Citizen, “I find it really powerful … it’s such an open road to riding motorcycles and there’s a freedom to it that I’m sure touches somewhere in my songwriting process.”
George Stroumboulopoulos
George Stroumboulopoulos is a motorcycle enthusiast and Canadian television and radio personality. We even spotted him at the Toronto Motorcycle Show earlier this year. Ever since he was little, there was something that drew him to motorcycles. His first bike was a 1978 Honda CM185. In a Canada Moto Guide interview George talked about riding. “Riding a motorcycle properly requires a lot of attention to survive, that you don’t need for a lot of other things. Most of life, you just go through life … but to survive a motorcycle career … you just have to really pay attention to details. What I find is, when I’m able to do that, I get to zone out of the rest of my life. I get a calmness and a peace that I can’t find elsewhere because I’m hyper-focused on one thing.”
Ryan Gosling
Canadian actor and musician, Ryan Gosling was born in London, Ontario and has come a long way since being a member of Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club. This motorcycle enthusiast is so comfortable on a bike he performed most of the motorcycle stunt riding himself in the movie The Place Beyond The Pines.
Tricia Helfer
Supermodel and actress Tricia Helfer is originally from Donalda, Alberta. She started riding a motorcycle with her husband. In a Canada Moto Guide interview Helfer said “I started riding with them, just on the back, but I very, very quickly realized that I wanted to be in the driver’s seat.” So she took a safety course and got her motorcycle license. When asked what she likes best about motorcycling, she responded: “I find it a stress reliever. You have to be so aware of everything around you that it’s a weird mix of being able to daydream and be in your own world, but yet you’re also hyper aware of what’s going on around you. You’re so focused on it that you can’t be thinking of your stresses and the things of your daily life, if that makes sense.”
Ryan Reynolds
Canadian actor and film producer Ryan Reynolds was born in Vancouver, BC. The first bike he had was a Honda CB750 when he was 15. He was hooked instantly. According to an interview with Bryan Rowland, Ryan Reynolds may not have gotten to where he is today without his motorcycle. Riding his bike in Hollywood allows him to escape – it’s his outlet and place to go to clear his mind. “I feel 100% that there is a spiritual connection to riding a bike. You are at play with the environment. You can’t do anything on a bike, except ride the bike and breathe.”
