The event will also include a trade show, show and shine, plus there will be manufacturers there with motorcycles to test ride.

This is a one-of-a-kind event for Western Canada. Women will descend from the Canadian Rockies or chase the sunset from the Prairies and take in a weekend designed just for them. Women from as far East as Nova Scotia and as far North as Yellowknife have already confirmed their attendance.

Numerous workshops will take place during the weekend including basic mechanics, riding skills review, introduction to both off-road and competitive riding, insurance awareness, what to do at the scene of an accident, and first aid. Participants in the event will also have the opportunity to ride their motorcycles in the awesome mountains and foothills west of Calgary.

This event is being organized by the Women Riders Council, part of Motorcycle Confederation of Canada, and The Chinook Outriders, the Calgary Chapter of Women In The Wind.

In Alberta during the past 10 years, the number of women holding a motorcycle operator’s license has grown by nearly 15,000 – from 18,607 in 2002 to 33,360 last year – and is continuing to grow rapidly. Women In The Wind is an all-female riders association founded in 1979 that has grown to over 90 Chapters worldwide including eight Alberta Chapters. Since 2003, the Alberta Chapters have held an annual rally touring and celebrating various parts of Alberta. This year was the Chinook Outriders Chapter in Calgary turn to host the rally

Comprised of national, provincial and territorial organizations, regional clubs, individual patrons and industry representatives, the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada is a national, grassroots advocacy organization championing motorcycling interests throughout Canada

MARKHAM, ON — The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) and Flat Track Canada (FTC) have joined together to promote the growing sport of flat track motorcycle racing in Canada.

“Flat Track Canada is very pleased to join forces with the MCC and we welcome the opportunity to work together to power flat track’s renaissance and promote an exciting, competitive flat track series in Canada,” noted FTC President Aaron Hesmer. “Our relationship with the MCC is an important building block, especially as we reach out to other flat track organizations in furthering the sport and developing a structured national flat track program for amateur and professional riders across the country.”

“The Flat Track Canada team has shown great vision and with Aaron Hesmer at the helm, I am confident this strategic partnership will contribute to the growth and popularity of flat track racing in Canada,” said MCC Chair Kellee Irwin. “I am also confident that Flat Track Canada will make a meaningful contribution to the shared and collaborative vision of the MCC Competition Council as it continues its focus on training, risk management and safety protocols for competitive motorcycling in Canada.”

“Increased interest in rider training opportunities is mirroring the rebirth of the sport,” added Aaron Hesmer. Though there has been a basic training program at our Paris Speedway training facility for the past few years, our recently launched GoFlatTrack.com offers a more comprehensive training program that will appeal to new and experienced flat track riders.”

Comprised of national, provincial and territorial organizations, regional clubs, individual patrons and industry representatives, the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada is a national, grassroots advocacy organization championing motorcycling interests throughout Canada. The mandate of the MCC Competition Council is to develop and promote motorcycle competition in various disciplines whether professional or amateur or recreational with responsible practices.

Revved-up for dialogue with Canadians about motorcycling: Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada launches new Statement of Policy

MARKHAM, ON, January 29, 2013 — “New thinking and more action on public policy and safety initiatives that recognize the importance of the growing motorcycling community across Canada” – that’s the message behind a new, collaborative-based Statement of Policy, launched today by the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC).

As a result of extensive collaboration among regional groups and individual motorcycling enthusiasts across Canada, this Statement of Policy proposes a series of steps designed to create a better riding environment in Canada.

“This is a living document, and will evolve as new issues arise,” says Daniel Tessier, President of the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada. “We’re anxious to bring this Statement of Policy to the next level: to engage the motorcycling community, start a national, multi-stakeholder dialogue and guide the advancement of public policy and safety objectives for the benefit of riders and road users across Canada.”

Download the document here.

Another important part of its government relations and advocacy program takes place in May 2013 – MCC Day on the Hill, in which MCC representatives will meet with Parliamentarians and officials to discuss issues that matter to the motorcycling community.

Comprised of national, provincial and territorial organizations, regional clubs, individual patrons and industry representatives, the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada is a national, grassroots advocacy organization championing motorcycling interests throughout Canada.

Open to all women riders across Canada, the US and elsewhere, the conference will feature a full
slate of inspirational speakers, coaching seminars, interactive workshops, sponsor and vendor product showcases, demo rides, and scenic rides. “The increase of women riders is one of the most exciting developments in the motorcycling community over the past decade,” said Planning Committee Co-Chair Mary Johnson. “Motorcycling is a convenient, modern, affordable, community- and family-oriented and increasingly eco-friendly mode of transportation, recreational activity and sport. The growth of the number of women motorcycling underscores the need for addressing the specific needs of women riders as well as build on their experiences to enrich the riding experiences for all.”

“This conference is an excellent opportunity for women riders to gather, in a supportive environment, and learn new skills, meet and ride with other women as well as enjoy the beauty and diversity of our country,” noted Co-Chair Mary Caldwell. “Conference participants will benefit from a full slate of presentations on topics ranging from seasonal safety tips, to selecting the appropriate helmet and gear, eating healthy on the road, and becoming an advocate for the motorcycle lifestyle. Featured interactive presentations include An Introduction to Off-Road Motorcycling; Competitive Riding for Women; and the Essentials of Motorcycle Mechanics. Other events will be announced as added to the agenda. Join the WRC Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter for more information.

November 3rd 2012

To all MCC Member Federations and Patrons:

The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada’s (MCC) is pleased to announce that beginning in November 2012 we will publish a monthly bulletin to keep our Member Federations and Patrons informed of our many initiatives, programs and activities. The bulletin will feature updates about MCC’s advocacy and outreach program, a calendar of events, guest columnists, a review of policy and safety developments and summary reports from our Councils, Committees and Working Groups. You will, of course, be encouraged to share that monthly bulletin with your members and network. And we encourage you to provide us with topics that would be interesting and relevant to you.

MCC’s objective is to become the trusted national advocacy organization, driven to offer superior value to members and recognized for its leadership role in public policy and safety issues that affect Canadian road and off-road motorcyclists. As we move into 2013, I am confident we will be energized by the collaborative and transparent nature of our decision-making as well as the strategic and results-oriented focus of our national public affairs and outreach activities that we started in 2012.

We should all take pride in the progress made by the MCC over the past year, for example:

- The MCC Statement of Policy – which highlights our broad public policy and safety objectives for road and off-road motorcyclists – is about to be released. This document is designed to engage the motorcycling community, crystallize a national, multi stakeholder dialogue and guide our advocacy, government relations and public affairs activities;

- A government relations and advocacy program that culminated in our February 2012 MCC Day on the Hill, where MCC representatives met with Parliamentarians and officials to discuss issues that matter to the motorcycling community;

- We are coordinating the development and release of a comprehensive economic impact study, which will showcase the economic benefits motorcyclists bring to communities across the country. We will now have the solid numbers federal and provincial decision-makers need as they consider public policy issues affecting the motorcycling community.

- We launched our new MCC Brand Promise, which lead to a new bilingual logo and image;

- We have improved our dialogue with the motorcycle media, which is reflected in increased coverage;

- We implemented a formal committee structure to advance the MCC strategic plan, initiatives and programs. We have revamped and reenergized the work of our Councils and launched new Committees, including a Public Affairs Committee.

- We strengthened our Governance and conducted a comprehensive review of our By Laws and policy guidelines, which we will share with Member Federations for their feedback.

- We are leveraging our new MCC website (motorcycling.ca) and social network to advance, promote and feature our competition, women riders, new riders and on- and off-road programs and initiatives;

- We are providing training, strategic support and guidance to our member federations to further advance their public affairs and advocacy programs; and,

- We continue to work with the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame to promote and celebrate Canada’s motorcycling history.

The MCC advocacy and government relations program for the year will focus on promoting the Statement of Policy and shining the spotlight on those issues that matter most to the motorcycling community – it is expected that we will participate in the federal pre-budget process of consultation and continue with another MCC Day on the Hill in Spring of 2013.

Powered by our extraordinary team of dedicated Board and Committee volunteers and MCC staff, I am confident that we will keep building an even better MCC.

In the December Bulletin, MCC President Daniel Tessier will highlight the programs and initiatives planned for 2013 and beyond. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Kellee Irwin,
Chair

Markham ON – September 27, 2012: The Board of Directors of the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to honour pioneering motorcycle racer Jacob De Rosier as a Historical Inductee at the Seventh Annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion, which takes place on November 3, 2012 at the Delta Centre-Ville in Montreal, Quebec.

A fierce competitor from the first age of the motorcycle, Jacob De Rosier must be considered among the very best in the history of motorcycle racing. “We are honoured to induct such an important figure to our ranks,” said Hall of Fame Chair Kellee Irwin. “Jacob De Rosier was one of those early competitors who drew the first spectators ever to attend a motorcycle race. The sport we know and love today owes much to the excitement he brought to the track.”

Winning his first race on a bicycle pacing machine in the late 1800s, Jacob De Rosier is truly a motorcycle racing pioneer. It is said that in the first decade of the 20th century De Rosier won nearly 900 races making him one of the very fastest competitors of his era. Having captured every Federation of American Motorcyclist (FAM) speed record by 1911, De Rosier took his skills across the Atlantic to test them at the Isle of Man TT in Great Britain, where he would be the first North American ever to compete in that event. When De Rosier was on his machine, the crowds came to watch. His career is one that has laid the foundation for the world of motorcycle racing.

Announcements for the remaining motorcycling legends and champions to be officially inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame at this year’s Hall of Fame banquet and ceremony will be made over the weeks leading up to the event. This accomplished group of men and women have achieved excellence in one or more competitive disciplines or made a significant contribution to the well-being, advancement or general positive image of motorcycling in Canada.

The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Reunion is the annual signature event of the Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation (CIMHMF), a non-profit association with charitable status. It is governed by an independent board of volunteer directors located from coast to coast and sponsored by the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC). Founded by Bar and Hedy Hodgson in 1999, the CIMHMF preserves and promotes Canadian motorcycle history for the benefit of the motorcycling community and public. Since the first induction banquet in Toronto in 2006, almost 100 distinguished motorcyclists have been inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Markham ON – September 25, 2012: The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the eleventh and final member of the class of 2012. The Sports Motor Cycle Club will be honoured at the Seventh Annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion, which takes place on November 3, 2012 at the Delta Centre-Ville in Montreal, Quebec.

Often referred to as “the granddaddy of moto clubs,” the Sports Motor Cycle Club has been expanding the horizons of motorcycling in Quebec since 1929. “The SMCC has been at the forefront of bridging the gap between motorcycle competition and recreation,” reported Hall of Fame Chair Kellee Irwin. “That’s what motorcycle communities are all about—bringing together competitors, fans, and non-competitive riders.”

Founded in 1929 by the likes of Lorne Lyndon, Terry McGrail, and Jim Miller, the SMCC’s history began with organizing races in and around Montreal. Initially dissatisfied with a lack of diversity in machines and event types in Quebec competitions, the SMCC set their sights on adding variety to racing in Quebec. This goal was achieved within a year. In 1930, they introduced European machines to competitions in which only American models were formerly raced, and they added a variety of popular new races such as scrambles, hillclimbs, and hare and hound events. In 1939 the SMCC’s fantastic work appeared on a larger stage when members organized a motorcycle escort routine for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Canada. And from there, under the new direction of Hall of Fame inductee Ed Hawke, the scope of the organization’s activities continued to grow, adding to their repertoire, recreational sport touring in the 1980s. The SMCC should be counted among the true trailblazers of motorcycling culture in Quebec.
